Symptoms and background
Short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism are what are known as refractive errors – they impair vision without a visual aid. More than 2.7 billion people worldwide are short-sighted.
If you would like to wake up in the morning and see clearly straight away – without glasses or contact lenses – laser eye surgery can be a long-term and safe option.
Laser eye surgery is generally suitable for short-sightedness up to approx. –10 dioptres, long-sightedness up to approx. +4 dioptres and astigmatism up to approx. 5 dioptres – provided your prescription has been stable for over a year and you are at least around 20 to 25 years old.
What modern medicine can do
LASEK is a modern, flapless laser procedure – it requires no incision in the cornea and is particularly gentle. The treatment offers a short recovery time and a lasting result.
LASIK (laser-in-situ keratomileusis) has been used successfully for over 30 years and allows a very rapid improvement in vision – often on the same or the next day. A thin flap is created, under which the cornea is reshaped with the laser.
Both procedures are painless and take only a few minutes per eye. In over 95% of cases, the refractive error can be significantly reduced or fully corrected.

Frequently asked questions
Does health insurance cover the costs?
Basic insurance does not cover the costs. Some supplementary insurance policies contribute. Please check with your insurer before the procedure.
What is the difference between LASEK and LASIK?
LASEK is flapless and gentler on the cornea. LASIK is faster and suitable for a broader range of cases. We give you an individual recommendation.
Who is laser eye surgery not suitable for?
Laser treatment is not suitable if the cornea is too thin, if dioptre values are very high, if your prescription is unstable, during pregnancy or with certain general medical conditions. Our suitability assessment will show this.
Will I be free of glasses straight away?
Most patients already see very well the next day. Your vision continues to stabilise over the following weeks.
Does laser eye surgery hurt?
No – the eye is numbed with drops. During the treatment, you will feel a slight sensation of pressure at most. Afterwards, there may be a burning sensation for a few hours.
