Symptoms and background
An eye test is required in Switzerland in order to obtain or renew a driving licence. A certificate from an ophthalmologist may also be requested by the traffic medical officer if reduced vision is suspected.
We carry out the necessary eye examination and issue the official ophthalmic certificate for the road traffic office.
What modern medicine can do
The driving licence eye test with an ophthalmologist is more comprehensive than a simple test at an optician. We check all the visual functions required by law – including visual acuity, visual field, contrast and twilight vision, as well as spatial vision.

Issuing the certificate
We issue the official ophthalmic certificate directly after the examination.

A flat rate per examination – we will tell you the current price at your appointment. Health insurance does not cover the eye test for a driving licence.

That depends on the category and your age. We will inform you at your appointment.
What if I don’t pass the eye test?
We discuss the reasons openly. Often a corrective prescription solves the problem. We advise you on the next steps.
Can I have the eye test done at an optician?
For simple eye tests, yes. If an official ophthalmic certificate is required, the examination has to be carried out by an ophthalmologist.
