Botulinum toxin – better known to many as Botox® – has been used in ophthalmology for decades. Typical medical applications are uncontrollable blinking, muscle spasms in the facial area or certain forms of squinting.
These include conditions such as blepharospasm (involuntary lid cramping), hemifacial spasm or facial dyskinesia.

What modern medicine can do
Botulinum toxin specifically reduces the activity of certain muscles by temporarily inhibiting the signal transmission between nerve and muscle. Depending on the area of application and the person, the effect lasts three to six months.
The treatment takes only a few minutes and is barely painful. The first effects appear after a few days; the full result appears after about two weeks.

What to do after the treatment
After a short observation period, you may leave the clinic. We recommend not applying make-up for a few hours and not lying down for the first four hours after the injection. -
Result & check-up
The effect becomes visible after three to seven days. We ask you to come in for a check-up after two weeks. A follow-up correction can be made if needed.

Are there any side effects?
In rare cases, small bruises or a temporary weakness of neighbouring muscles can occur. Serious side effects are extremely rare.
